Banking alerts are a crucial tool for financial security and smart money management, empowering users to monitor spending and detect suspicious activity. In Narmi Banking, users can create an email, SMS (text), and/or push notification (mobile) alert based on specific account conditions, such as account balances or transactions.
Note: For security, account numbers are masked in transaction and balance alert emails and text messages. Push notifications are not supported for Security alerts.
To access alerts on the web app, go to the name menu > Settings > Alerts.
To access alerts on the mobile app, go to the More menu and select Alerts under My accounts.
Alert Types
On the Alerts page, Narmi Banking offers four types of alerts—Balance, Spending, Custom, and Security—each designed to give users greater control and insight into their financial activity.
Balance Alerts
The following balance alerts are available:
Balance below – Sent when a user’s balance falls below a specified amount. To set this alert, turn on the toggle next to the alert, enter an amount, select one or more accounts, and select a delivery method—Email, SMS, and/or Push (mobile app only).
Available Balance – Notifies a user of their available balance for selected accounts. This alert is sent at 11:00 a.m. EST on the days specified by the user in their alert settings. To set this alert, turn on the toggle next to the alert, select the days to be notified, select one or more accounts, and select a delivery method.
Incoming Transaction – Sent when a user has an incoming transaction that exceeds a specified amount. To set this alert, turn on the toggle next to the alert, enter an amount, and select a delivery method.
Loan payment reminder (consumers with loan accounts only) – Sent when a user’s loan payment is due. To set this alert, turn on the toggle next to the alert, select when to be reminded (on the due date or up to 7 days before), and select a delivery method.
Loan overdue (consumers with loan accounts only) – Sent when a user’s loan payment is overdue. We send this notification once per loan payment cycle, on the day after the payment due date. To set this alert, turn on the toggle next to the alert and select a delivery method.
Spending Alerts
The spending alert notifies users when a posted transaction exceeds a specific amount. To set this alert, select Spending alerts, turn on the Outgoing transaction toggle, enter an amount, and select a delivery method—Email, SMS, and/or Push (mobile app only).
Note: By default, the transaction alert only applies to posted transactions, not pending transactions. Please contact your Narmi Relationship Manager if you would like to enable this alert for pending transactions. Once enabled, alerts include the status of the transaction as “Pending” or “Posted.”
To view the transaction alerts for all your Narmi Banking users, view the Transaction Alerts report in Narmi Command under Reports > Transaction Alerts > Download.
Custom Alerts
Custom alerts allow users to set up unique alerts based on criteria most important to them, such as large deposits, specific merchant transactions, or unusual activity.
To add a new custom alert:
Select Custom alerts > Add a new custom alert.
On the dialog that appears, enter the following information:
Delivery method – Choose to receive an Email, SMS, and/or Push (mobile app only) as the alert format.
Account – Select a specific account to which the alert should apply, or choose Select all if you would like the alert to apply to all accounts.
Transaction amount – Enter an amount threshold for the alert. For alerts of any amount, leave the Amount fields at $0.00.
Resulting balance – Enter a balance range for the alert. For alerts of any balance, leave the Balance fields at $0.00.
Keywords – Enter a keyword to be notified of transactions that include that word. Enter multiple keywords separated by commas. If tags were added to specific transactions, you can add an alert for those tags by entering them as keywords. For more information, go to Transaction Details.
Select Add.
Security Alerts
Security alerts automatically notify users via email of password changes, changes to personal information, or other critical security events. Select Security alerts to view these notifications. Users cannot disable security alerts. Security alerts are not delivered via push notification.
When a user changes their password, they also receive an SMS alert. If the user has the mobile app and allows notifications in their device settings, they will receive a push notification instead of a text message. The change password SMS displays in the following format:
Alert: Your [INSTITUTION NAME] password has been updated. If you didn't initiate this change, please contact us immediately at [PHONE].
