Topaz Systems provides electronic signature solutions for digital documents, including robust hardware pads, bundled software tools, and developer and technical support. Several financial institutions utilize Topaz devices within their branches to collect signatures from applicants and customers. Topaz is integrated with our Consumer Staff-Led Account Opening product to collect legally valid handwritten signatures for digital applications.
Our Topaz integration supports collecting a signature for each consumer applicant (primary and joint), saving it as a file, and including it at the bottom of the membership card/application record PDF for each opened application. See details in Topaz Applicant Flow.
There are several types of Topaz devices, and each financial institution may support a slightly different experience with the devices and how they collect applicant signatures. For example, there are small pads where the applicant only sees a box to sign their name in. Larger pads display entire documents and allow applicants to tap into specific fields to sign their names.
Setting Up Topaz
To use our Topaz integration, your institution must use Consumer Staff-Led Account Opening and contact Narmi to enable the Topaz feature.
Additionally, your staff must download a specific plug-in that supports the Topaz pad within the web browser: Topaz SigPlusExtLite Extension. Instructions are available in the Topaz User Installation Guide. Staff members must complete all installation steps in the guide to avoid errors.
Optionally, your institution can collect the Topaz Sig String in addition to the signature image. The Sig String is a proprietary data format used by Topaz signature devices and their associated software (like SigPlus and SigWeb) to represent and store electronic signatures. The Sig String contains the necessary information for both visual display and forensic verification. The collection of the Sig String is enabled by default. To disable it, go to Narmi Command under Configurations > Institution settings > Collect Topaz Sig String and set it to False
.
Topaz Applicant Flow
The applicant flow contains the following steps:
In the post-KYC step (step 3) of Consumer Staff-Led Account Opening, select the Signature card.
Select the applicant’s name for whom you are collecting the signature. This will launch the Topaz pad and open a dialog box for the signature.
The applicant signs their name on the signature pad.
The staff member can accept the signature by selecting the checkmark. The signature image is saved.
If the applicant needs to redo the signature, the staff member can select the 'X' and relaunch the signature pad for the applicant to try again.
Once the application is approved and the account(s) are successfully opened, the signature is added to the bottom of the membership card PDF for the application. To access the membership card/application record PDF, go to Narmi Command under Account opening > Applications > select an application > under Application details, select View PDF. Go to Application View for details.
For complete information on the Consumer Staff-Led Account Opening flow, go to Consumer Staff-Led Account Opening for New Users or Consumer Staff-Led Account Opening for Existing Users.

There are essentially three main categories of device types that Topaz offers:
