Narmi Guard Transaction Monitoring integrates Narmi Banking with Alloy to monitor transactions and automatically identify those that pose a high risk. Once your institution enables Transaction Monitoring, all FedNow send transactions (not received transactions) are processed through your institution's customizable Alloy Workflow, and the Alloy Outcomes are displayed in Narmi Command. Staff can choose to override a declined payment, which will post the payment without sending it through transaction monitoring. Please contact your Narmi Relationship Manager to get started with Narmi Guard Transaction Monitoring.
The following pre-defined Outcomes are supported for FedNow Transaction Monitoring:
Accepted – The payment passed transaction monitoring and will be posted and sent via the FedNow service.
Declined – The payment did not pass transaction monitoring and will not be posted.
When accepted, the sender will receive a success message on the payment receipt page.
When declined, the sender will receive a rejection message on the payment receipt page. The message does not specify that it is for fraud prevention reasons.
Staff members can view declined payments in Narmi Command and choose to override them, which will post the payment without sending it through transaction monitoring.
Overriding Declined Payments
Note: Use caution when overriding a declined FedNow payment, as this action is final and cannot be undone.
To override a payment in “Declined” status:
From Narmi Command, select Transactions > FedNow manager > Declined.
The page that appears shows payments that did not pass transaction monitoring, with the following information:
Sender – Sender’s name
Source – Sender’s account number
Destination – Recipient’s account number
Last Updated – Date and time the payment was last updated
Status – Status of payment: “Declined” or “Decline overridden”
Amount – Dollar amount of payment
Select the row of a payment with “Declined” status. A side panel opens, displaying the payment’s details. Select View details to open a dialog box displaying all Outcome Reasons and Tags.
Your institution defines the Outcome Reasons and Tags used for Transaction Monitoring, so we do not provide a set list of these. Select View in Alloy to log in to Alloy and open the detailed evaluation, which includes the user's full profile and risk level.
From the payment details, select the three dots menu and choose 'Override decline'.
Add any additional information, which is optional, and select Confirm.
The payment will be posted and sent via the FedNow service without passing transaction monitoring. The payment’s status changes to “Decline overridden.”
There will also be a new payment with “Posted” status that appears in the Payments tab.
Select the payment row in the Payments tab to view details, including a link to the declined attempt.
