With remote deposits, your financial institution can allow users to deposit checks electronically without having to use an ATM or visit a branch office. With remote deposit capture (RDC) technology, paper checks are digitally scanned, and an image of the check is electronically transmitted to your financial institution. Remote deposits can streamline and improve the efficiency of your institution's operations. For your customers, remote deposits improve cash flow while helping reduce the time, cost, risks, and waste resulting from physical check deposits. Remote deposits can be made to Checking, Savings, and Money Market account types.
For instructions on depositing checks via the mobile app, go to Deposit a Check Remotely.
Remote Deposit Vendors
Narmi partners with the following third-party vendors for RDC:
Mitek MiSnap – A patented mobile-capture solution for consumers and businesses that enables an intuitive user experience and instant capture of quality images. Mitek is responsible for capturing a still image of the front and back of the checks that are deposited.
Ensenta – Ensenta is owned by Jack Henry and provides cloud-based, real-time payment and deposit solutions. Ensenta requires businesses on the web to use the Ensenta SSO that connects to a hardware-based scanner. Ensenta takes the scanned image and is responsible for risk review, real-time posting, error messages, and movement of funds.
Remote Deposit Settings
The following settings apply to mobile check deposits using Mitek MiSnap, not Ensenta SSO. These settings are available from Narmi Command under Institution Settings:
RDC Cutoff Time – The cut-off time for remote deposits used to calculate the Expected availability date, which is shown on the deposit receipt once the remote deposit is completed. If a user deposits a check after the RDC cutoff time, we add one business day to the expected availability date. The Expected availability date only shows if your institution has hold days configured via the segment setting
features.hold_days.rdc_hold_days
or the institution setting Mobile Check Deposit Hold Days. For RDC Cutoff Time, the value entered must be a whole integer representing the start of the hour in your financial institution's timezone. This setting only accepts integers from
0
to23
, representing a 24-hour day. For example, if your desired cutoff time is 6:00 pm, the value entered should be18
. There is no default value.Note: After setting your RDC Cutoff Time, contact your Narmi Relationship Manager to update the customer-facing help text under Expected availability. The default text states: "Funds deposited before 9PM EST are generally available for withdrawal by the next business day." This message should be modified to accurately reflect your specific cutoff time.
Mobile Check Deposit Hold Days – This is the default number of days your institution will hold mobile deposit funds. If the user makes an RDC for more than their immediate availability, this hold applies to the amount over that immediate limit. This value does not affect a user's RDC limit timeframe. This setting is required and can be adjusted directly from this institution setting or at the segment level. The default is 2 days. For more information on segmentation, contact your Narmi Relationship Manager.
Mobile Check Deposit Real Time Posting: This determines how mobile check deposits are posted:
When set to
true
, mobile check deposit transactions are posted via the core API in real-time and funds become available immediately. This requires an Immediate RDC limit to be set in your segment (see below for information on this setting). When set to
false
, mobile check deposit transactions are posted via a batch process and funds are not immediately available. In this case, no Immediate RDC limit should be set in your segment.
Immediate RDC limit – This is the amount that is immediately available to the user from remote deposits. This setting is not visible in Institution Settings, so please contact your Narmi Relationship Manager to edit this setting.
RDC Instructions – These are the instructions that appear when a user selects Deposit from the bottom navigation bar or selects the question mark icon in the "Check deposit" screen. Selecting Got it closes the instructions. If one week has passed since the user selected Got it, the instructions will reappear.
RDC Terms & Conditions URL – This is the URL for your institution's Remote Deposit Capture terms and conditions. When a user selects Deposit from the bottom navigation bar for the first time, the instructions include a photo check deposit link that opens this URL. The user can also access these instructions by selecting the question mark icon in the "Check deposit" screen.
